A fresh wave of Russian attacks has claimed the lives of seven people, including three children, in Ukraine’s western city of Lviv, according to the city’s mayor, Andriy Sadovy.
The attack, which occurred early Wednesday morning, saw the use of drones and hypersonic missiles, marking a devastating escalation in the ongoing conflict.
Among the victims were a baby, two young girls aged nine and 14, and a woman who worked as a midwife.
The strikes also caused extensive damage in Lviv, with more than 50 buildings, including homes, schools, and clinics, suffering destruction.
Rescue workers are still combing through the debris in search of survivors.
This attack comes just a day after a devastating strike on a military institute in the central city of Poltava, which killed at least 50 people.
Explosions were also reported in the capital, Kyiv, as air defenses worked to intercept incoming Russian missiles.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attacks, vowing that Russia would face consequences.
He reiterated his call for stronger air defenses to protect Ukraine from further assaults.
Meanwhile, in Kryvyy Rih, five people were injured when a hotel and nearby buildings were damaged by Russian strikes. The entire country remains on high alert as tensions escalate.
