A Russian air assault on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia killed three people and injured two others on Monday morning, regional authorities said, as Moscow intensified overnight attacks across multiple regions.

“Monday morning in Zaporizhzhia began with explosions and fires,” Governor Ivan Fedorov wrote on Telegram. He said Russian forces dropped at least 10 aerial bombs on the city of about 700,000 residents, damaging 15 apartment blocks, 10 private homes and several non-residential buildings.

Ukraine’s air force reported that it had shot down 132 drones launched by Russia overnight, but said nine drones managed to strike targets at seven locations.

In the northeastern Sumy region, Governor Oleh Hryhorov said drone attacks over the past day injured two people and damaged civilian infrastructure and private homes.

In the Kyiv region, emergency services confirmed one person was wounded and multiple apartment buildings and houses were damaged in overnight strikes.

The latest barrage underscores the continued intensity of Russia’s campaign against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure more than two years into the war, despite Ukraine’s ongoing air defence efforts.
