More than 30 MPs allied to President William Ruto launched a scathing political offensive against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday, accusing him of tribalism, divisiveness, and failed leadership — and vowing he will not derail Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.
Speaking during an economic empowerment event in Kapseret Constituency, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah led the charge, declaring that Gachagua lacked the clout or moral standing to challenge Ruto.
“Even his own family should be ashamed of his loose talk and poor behaviour,” Ichung’wah said, referencing Gachagua’s recent controversial remarks tied to the 2007/8 post-election violence.
The MPs, largely from the Mt Kenya and Rift Valley regions, dismissed Gachagua as “a political failure” and ridiculed his bid to unseat Ruto.
“We don’t even need Ruto to run again. Even Oscar Sudi could defeat them easily,” Ichung’wah quipped.
Finance CS John Mbadi, also present, condemned Gachagua’s “anger, hatred and tribalism,” warning that such politics had no place in modern Kenya. He added that national unity must override personal vendettas.
Oscar Sudi, the host MP, lashed out at claims that government funds were being misused in empowerment drives. “My programme is funded by me and friends from Tanzania. Gachagua must learn to respect the President,” he said.
Mt Kenya MPs, including Eric Wamumbi, Ann Wamuratha, and Sabina Chege, pledged their loyalty to Ruto and dismissed Gachagua’s influence. “We are tired of his intimidation.”
