Ruto Assures Fair, Transparent Allocation of Affordable Housing Units

President William Ruto has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to equitable and transparent allocation of affordable housing units, saying all deserving Kenyans will benefit regardless of their ethnicity or background.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the Kibera Soweto East Zone B Affordable Housing Project on Friday, President Ruto stated that the housing program is a key pillar in his administration’s plan to uplift living standards and bridge the housing gap across the country.

“I give you my assurance that allocations will not be done on an ethnic basis. All deserving Kenyans will benefit equally because we want to build a united country,” said the President.

The Kibera Soweto East Zone B project comprises 4,600 units, with President Ruto announcing plans to build 25,000 units in Kibera alone as part of the larger affordable housing rollout.

He emphasized that residents of the area will be given first priority before units are opened up to other Kenyans.

“Kibera used to be known as the largest slum in Africa, but we are determined to transform it into the largest decent residential estate on the continent,” Ruto added.

The President noted that enumeration in Zones C and D is ongoing, targeting over 10,000 residents who will be relocated to pave the way for new developments.

With more than 150,000 units under construction across 200 sites nationwide, the affordable housing initiative has also become a major source of employment, currently engaging over 200,000 youth.

In a related directive, President Ruto ordered the immediate upgrade of the Undugu playground in Kibera to enhance recreation and community well-being.

Also in attendance were Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Lang’ata MP Phelix “Jalang’o” Odiwuor, and several local leaders.
