Ruto confirms love for Arsenal, expresses sympathy for Manchester United

President William Ruto, on Friday, October 24, threw a light banter at English club Manchester United.

Speaking during the English Premier League (EPL)Trophy Tour at State House, Nairobi, the President said he sympathizes with the club following its poor run of results in recent years.

“We sympathize with Manchester United, but I think it is the nature of football,” Ruto said.

At the same time, the Head of State noted that Kenya is a football-loving nation with the majority of citizens supporting clubs in the EPL.

“We don’t just watch Premier League, we live; we breathe and argue about it every weekend as if we own the clubs ourselves. Whether you are Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, or Manchester City, you can feel the energy across our towns, estates, the villages, and every day in every match,” he said.

Further, President Ruto revealed he supports the English side Arsenal and expressed optimism that the club is back to winning ways.

“I am a proud Arsenal fan. It’s true that the last two decades have not been very easy for us. We have had our own share of heartbreaks and near misses.

“But if you have been watching the Gunners lately, then you know the style, the swagger, the spirit, it is all coming alive again so to our friends in EPL and across Europe, watch out, Arsenal is back,” the President added.

The EPL trophy, which is one of the most iconic in the world, will be available for public viewing on Saturday, October 25, and Sunday, October 26, 2026, at Bar Next Door along Kiambu Road.

Football enthusiasts will have a chance to get up close and capture photos of themselves posing next to the trophy.

The famous trophy was last in Kenya in September 2023 during an event at Carnivore grounds in Nairobi.

Legendary former Nigerian footballer and Super Eagles captain Jay Jay Okocha was in attendance.
