President William Ruto has issued a stern warning to government agencies lagging behind in implementing his directive to digitise services.
Speaking at the First Anniversary of the e-Citizen Directorate event at KICC, Nairobi, he highlighted inefficiencies and revenue losses caused by manual operations.
“I promised Kenyans there would be no money to steal in my government, and digitisation is key to that promise,” Ruto said.
The President named 34 agencies, including the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Kenya Ports Authority, and Kenya Power, that have yet to transition to digital platforms.
He gave them a one-week ultimatum to comply or face consequences, warning, “Those who cannot comply should step aside.”
Ruto emphasized that digitisation is central to his administration’s efforts to curb corruption and enhance transparency.
He noted that outdated systems foster inefficiency, revenue leakage, and graft, eroding public trust.
Commending the e-Citizen Directorate for its progress, Ruto cited success stories like The Kenya Wildlife Service, where digitisation has curbed corruption and streamlined revenue collection.
As the ultimatum looms, Kenyans are watching to see if these agencies will embrace reform or face leadership overhauls.
