Ruto Dispatches Mediation Team To Cool Congo

Deputy President William Ruto has sought to defuse tensions sparked by his remarks in Kinshasa, which were interpreted as insulting.

Hussein Mohamed, Director of Communications for the WSR Presidential Campaign, announced on Thursday, February 17, that the DP had dispatched a team to his presidential campaign secretariat, led by Ababu Namwamba, Head of International Relations.

Mohamed was also part of the trip, as was Korir Simg’oei, the legal advisor in the Deputy President’s Office.

After paying her a courtesy call in her Nairobi offices, the crew met with Madam Malenga Omoy Charlotte, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Head of Missions.

Despite the DP’s comments, which sparked widespread outrage in the DRC, Malenga assured them that the two countries’ bilateral relations would stay intact, according to Mohamed.

“DRC Head of Missions… has assured that our bilateral relations remain intact and that the existing formal diplomatic channels of communication take precedence.”
