Ruto : Drop BBI campaigns and focus on COVID-19

The Deputy President William Ruto has called on the National government to focus on the COVID-19 pandemic instead of funding and mobilizing for the BBI.- – By Gerald Gekara.

In a tweet sent out to his followers, the Deputy President said the pandemic has caused suffering to families and killed many Kenyans therefore deserving the full attention of the state.

“The wave of Covid19 is clearly RAVAGING our nation with ALARMING increases in infections and deaths. The pandemic is KILLING people including health workers while DESTROYING livelihoods. We should STOP everything and mobilise every HUMAN, MATERIAL and FINANCIAL resource to fight.” Ruto Tweeted.

However, the Deputy President recieved backlash for what many under his commentary described as sheer hypocrisy.

Kenyans tweeted photos of the deputy president at many of his mammoth rallies, including those with the now deceased Matungu MP, Justus Murunga who died from a suspected COVID-19 complication.

DP Ruto’s message however, concided with calls by medical staffers who accused he Ministry of Health of not taking the pandemic seriously.

While speaking to the media, health workers mourned the death of 8 doctors from the scourge, and announced a 17-day strike notice to protest lack of protective equipment and mishandling of the pandemic.

Kenya continues to record high death rates with the Ministry of Health confirming a further 20 patients have succumbed to the disease as of November 15th. The death toll now stands at 1,269

In the tally, 972 people more people tested positive for the virus, from a sample size of 6,648. This brings the total to 70,245 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country.
