Ruto Inspects Kilimani Police Housing Project, Reaffirms Commitment to Better Living for Officers

President William Ruto has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of Kenya’s security forces, as he conducted an impromptu inspection of the Kilimani Police Housing Project, where 542 affordable housing units are under construction.

The project, being implemented under the National Police Housing Programme,a key component of the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP), is designed to provide dignified, modern housing for police officers, many of whom currently live in substandard conditions at police stations and posts.

“We must purpose to improve the living conditions of our police officers,” said Ruto. “As a government, we will not rest until we provide better living standards for them.”

The development will feature 88 studio apartments, 86 one-bedroom units, 176 two-bedroom units, and 192 three-bedroom units. It will also include essential amenities such as a commercial centre, hospital, social hall, gym, Early Childhood Development (ECD) school, subordinate staff housing, and gatehouses.

Accompanied by Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome and Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga, the President emphasized that the project is not only about dignified housing but also job creation and inclusive economic growth.

“We are implementing our agenda and manifesto through housing,” said Ruto. “This project is creating jobs for the youth and ensuring that Jua Kali artisans, mama mboga, and MSMEs benefit directly as suppliers and workers.”

The Kilimani project is expected to be completed within 45 months and will generate over 1,000 direct and indirect job opportunities for local residents. PS Hinga highlighted that the initiative also includes housing solutions for other uniformed personnel such as military and prison officers.

Ruto urged Kenyans to respect members of the police service and safeguard security installations across the country, saying that a well-treated and well-housed police force is critical to national stability.

“Our focus is to ensure accessible and quality housing for all Kenyans, including our men and women in uniform,” he said. “We remain committed to making home ownership a reality for every citizen, regardless of their social or economic status.”
