Ruto: Kindiki Relocated To North Rift Until Security Issues Are Resolved

President William Ruto has directed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to relocate from Nairobi and reside in the North Rift region until the insecurity crisis is resolved.

This action follows recent incidents of banditry in the region, which have left residents fearful for their lives. Four police officers were killed in an ambush along the Kitale-Lodwar Highway just a few weeks ago.

Ruto emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all Kenyans while speaking at an interdenominational church service in Nakuru County.

“I know we have issues regarding security operations in North Rift. I have instructed Kindiki to leave his office in Nairobi and then go live in North Rift until these citizens stop losing their lives,” Ruto said.

“With the government’s efforts, we will deal with them and ensure no Kenyan life is lost. We will deal with them ruthlessly,” he added.

Bandits have killed 27 people in the last 40 days, including three police officers.

According to the breakdown of the deadly attacks, two girls were killed in Elgeyo Marakwet on January 2, 2023.

On January 13, 2023, eight people were killed in Marsabit County.

Three people were killed in a Marsabit attack on January 23, and two people were killed in Samburu county on January 27.

Four people were killed and two were injured in Turkana East on February 7.

On February 10, three police officers and five civilians were killed in Turkana County’s Kainuk.
