President William Ruto has launched the redevelopment and expansion of Gusii Stadium, a project aimed at transforming the facility into a modern sports venue meeting international standards.

The Ksh1 billion project will see the construction of a 14,000-seater stadium featuring a FIFA-standard pitch and an eight-lane athletics track. The works are expected to be completed by April 2027.

The upgrade forms part of the government’s broader plan to develop world-class sporting infrastructure across the country, including the Talanta Sports City Stadium, as well as the construction of 25 new facilities and the modernisation of existing ones.

According to the President, the initiative is designed to create an enabling environment for athletes to develop their talents and earn sustainable livelihoods through sports.

During the event, the Head of State also handed over a new bus to Shabana F.C. and later joined fans to watch a friendly match between Shabana F.C. and Gucha F.C.

The project is expected to boost sports development in the region while enhancing opportunities for local talent on both national and international stages.
