Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate William Ruto will campaign in Kiambu County on Friday despite a sibling rivalry pitting the Kenya Kwanza Alliance affiliate parties in the county.
The expected sibling rivalry is between UDA’s Kimani Wamatangi, Tujibebe party candidate William Kabogo, and Chama Cha Kazi candidate Moses Kuria, who are all running for governor.
DP Ruto’s itinerary will begin in Limuru town, Limuru constituency, and will continue to Kimende, Lari constituency.
Later that afternoon, he’ll travel to Ruiru, then to Kiambu, for a series of engagements.
The trail will then travel to Githunguri constituency, then to Kabete constituency’s Wangige Market, and finally to Kikuyu town, which is represented by DP close ally Kimani Ichungwah.
On Thursday, Ruto took his campaigns to Narok, Migori, Nyamira and Kisii counties.
The last time UDA’s presidential running mate Rigathi Gachagua pitched tents in Kiambu county, there was a standoff between UDA’s Kimani Wamatangi and Tujibebe party candidate William Kabogo.
During the rally, hell broke loose when Wamatangi allegedly denied Kabogo the microphone to address the rally.
In his address, Wamatangi urged the electorates to vote for only UDA candidates.
“I’m rallying you to vote me as governor on UDA and I will deliver on the promises that I make,” Wamatangi said.
He pointed a finger at Kabogo warning that he won’t be intimidated.
“I can also lead Kiambu people and I won’t be intimidated at all.”
In a rejoinder, Kabongo who had ostensibly envisioned the standoff pulled out his microphone and fired back at Wamatangi.
Kabogo accused the senator of sensing early defeat.
“Kama wewe ni Mwanaume kuja hapa(If you are a real gentleman cross to this side)Kabogo said.
The move sparked an ugly debate of some sorts as the two embarked on a shouting match.
Supporters of both camps exacerbated the already volatile situation as they wrestled with each other in booing and jeering.
The standoff happened in the full glare of Gachagua who watched helplessly as the two leaders disparage each other.
Gachagua was leading campaigns to drum up support for his boss William Ruto.
