President William Ruto has nominated the Deputy Director Office of the Directorate of Public prosecutions (ODPP) Dorcas Odour to serve as the country’s next Attorney General in a statement released earlier today.
If confirmed by the Kenyan Parliament, Odour would replace the outgoing Attorney General, Justin Muturi.
“President Ruto has full confidence in Ms. Odour’s legal expertise and her commitment to upholding the rule of law in Kenya,” the statement read.
“Her nomination represents the administration’s dedication to selecting qualified individuals to serve in key government positions.”
Odour, 52, who currently serves as the Secretary of Public Prosecutions at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), is a High Court advocate with a master’s degree in international Conflict Management from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Laws from the same institution,
She also holds a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
Prior to her appointment, Oduor held several positions at the ODPP including Deputy Director, Head of the Economic, International, and Emerging Crimes Department, Deputy Chief State Counsel, and State Counsel at the Office of the Attorney General.
Odour’s nomination comes at a critical juncture for Kenya, as the country grapples with various legal and constitutional challenges, including ongoing devolution disputes, anti-corruption efforts, and the implementation of landmark judicial rulings.
