Ruto Officiates First Madaraka Day As President

President William Ruto, the fifth Kenyan President will lead his first Madaraka Day Celebrations Today, June 1, nearly 10 months after he was sworn in as President.

President William Ruto has arrived in Embu to lead the country in the 60th Madaraka Day celebrations.

This would be Ruto’s third time leading the country in National Day celebrations after taking office as President on September 13, 2022.

Madaraka Day celebrations are hosted on a rotational basis by counties outside Nairobi pursuant to a directive made in 2015 by the fourth President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta.

Traditionally, Nairobi had the privilege of hosting all the National celebrations. The national event is underway in Embu County at Moi Stadium.

The stadium was face-lifted at a cost of Ksh476 million. It was opened by CS Sports Ababu Namwamba on Wednesday May 31,2023.
