President William Ruto proposed renaming the Kenya Revenue Authority on Thursday.
The President stated in his proposal that the renaming will be part of a culture change to make the authority more personable.
He wants to call it the Kenya Revenue Service.
“We want to make it a people-friendly, customer-centric organization. I am of the view that we rename it The Kenya Revenue Service. In line with the proposed transformation,” Ruto said.
According to the President, his team will also propose new tax measures to start moving the country in the right direction.
Outgoing Treasury CS Ukur Yatani first proposed changing the name of the KRA.
The proposal was made during the presentation of the 2022/23 budget, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s final budget.
“In order to align the operations of the Authority to this emerging trend, I propose to amend the Kenya Revenue Authority Act to change the name of the Authority from ‘Kenya Revenue Authority’ to ‘Kenya Revenue Service’,” Yatani said.
