President-Elect William Ruto has called out four IEBC commissioners after they disowned his election victory.
Speaking to the press after he was elected president, Ruto said the law allows only one Presidential Returning Officer and the walk out did not hold water.
“On the issue of the IEBC commissioners, the law clearly states that only one returning officer Wafula Chebukati declares results. any other thing is sideshows.”
The commissioners, Francis Wanderi, Irene Masit and Justus Nyang’aya led by Vice chairperson Juliana Cherera held a parallel press conference to announce their displeasure.
“We are not at Bomas because we cannot take ownership of the results that are going to be announced,” Cherera said.
The move sparked uncertainity in the country as almost at the same time, the Azimio La Umoja coalition party held a conference to discredit the election results.
Azimio team, led by Chief Agent Kanchory Saitabao said the IEBC Chairperson had not heeded to their concerns over alleged irregularities.
The result saw a brief commotion that led to a walk out by the Azimio team, as the choir sung on.
Soon after, calm was restored, and President-Elect William Ruto was announced.
