President William Ruto has announced that he will begin a two-week development tour of Kitui and the greater Ukambani region, focusing on launching and inspecting key infrastructure projects.
Speaking today at Ithookwe in Kitui, the President said the tour was initially scheduled earlier but had been postponed due to the sudden demise of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.
During his address, Ruto highlighted the region’s historical lack of development attention. “Ukambani imeachwa nyuma,” he said. He also took aim at certain political leaders, stating: “Those politicians enhancing politics of poverty will fail.”
As part of the projects linked to Mashujaa Day celebrations, Kitui County has already received a new State Lodge, several road projects, and a revamped airstrip to improve access and service delivery.
Ruto also announced that Ithookwe Stadium will be officially opened in November. The stadium is being upgraded to meet international standards, and similar stadiums are planned for Machakos and Wote.
On the issue of water infrastructure, the President confirmed that the Umma Dam, which has stalled for the past 15 years, will be completed by 2026. He also referenced the ongoing Thwake Dam project.
Additionally, the stalled Enziu River Bridge is set to be completed, and the Kitui-Kibwezi Road will be extended to improve regional transport and spur economic activity
