President William Ruto has chosen the UDA party’s dominant yellow colour for the presidential standard.
It also features his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party’s symbol, a wheelbarrow.
The shield is colored in the Kenyan flag colors, and the two spears are green and black.
Green is one of UDA’s colors.
The presidential standard, also known as the presidential flag, is the flag that is used as a symbol of the head of state in many countries.
In some countries, it may only be raised when the president is present.
In Kenya, however, the Presidential Standard is designed by the President-elect.
It represents the Commander-in-Chief and symbolizes power.
The Kenya Defence Force designed and made it to the liking of the President-elect.
The other symbols that will be included in the flag have not yet been revealed.
It must, however, include two crossed spears and a shield in the colors of the national flag.
These two represent unity and the willingness to defend the country’s freedom.
Outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta wore a blue one inspired by the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya’s founding president ( dark blue standard).
Uhuru was given a dove as the National Alliance party symbol, while his father was given a yellow cockerel as the Kenya African National Union party symbol.
The late Mwai Kibaki’s Presidential Standard was white, with a shield in the center bearing the Kenya national colors between two olive branches symbolizing peace.
The late Daniel Moi was green, with a red cockerel.
The Presidential Standard was unveiled at Kasarani Stadium on Tuesday after the president was sworn in to succeed his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, who has served two terms.
Throughout his campaign, Ruto portrayed himself as the champion of the poor in the country, referring to himself as the ‘Hustler,’ hence the wheelbarrow as his Party’s symbol.
