Ruto Vows Justice for Slain MP Charles Were: “We Will Get Them”

President William Ruto has vowed swift and decisive justice in the wake of the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, asserting that no effort will be spared to apprehend the killers and their accomplices.

Speaking during a visit to Migori County on Sunday, the president condemned the murder as a cowardly act that threatens national stability.

“Lawlessness and violence cannot be part of our culture. We have a country to protect. Stability, peace, and unity are key to development,” Ruto told a solemn crowd.

MP Were was fatally shot on Wednesday evening near City Mortuary along Ngong Road, Nairobi.

Eyewitnesses say two men on a motorbike ambushed his vehicle before one opened fire at close range, killing the MP instantly. His driver was left unharmed, deepening the belief that the attack was premeditated.

The National Police Service has since confirmed the incident is being investigated as a targeted killing.

Two suspects were arrested in a Saturday night operation in Eastlands, Nairobi, and are currently in custody.

“We will get them,” Ruto insisted. “They will have nowhere to hide. We will go after their collaborators to ensure such an incident does not happen again.”

Amid mounting political tension, Interior PS Raymond Omollo has cautioned against inflammatory statements, while UDA and ODM figures trade blame over the MP’s murder.
