Ezekiel Mutua’s suit seeking his dismissal as chairman of the Kenya Film Classification Board in August last year was dismissed by the High Court.Â
Justice Maureen Onyango said in her decision that the board went “ultra vires” (outside its authority) by appointing the applicant for a five-year term after he had served two three-year terms.
“Appointing him for a term of five years is in violation of Mwongozo and the Board’s HR Manual,” Justice Onyango added. As a result, the letter of appointment appointing him dated July 14, 2021 is null and invalid.”
Dr. Mutua was replaced after six years at the helm.
Christopher Wambua from Communications Authority of Kenya took over as CEO of the regulator.
