Sacking Amorim could cost Manchester United 15.9 million Euros (Ksh 2.8B)

Amorim was sacked after leading United to their lowest-ever Premier League finish (15th) in the 2024–25 season and losing the Europa League final to Tottenham.

Manchester United’s recent financial filings as of February 27, 2026, confirm that sacking Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff could cost the club a total of approximately KSh 2.8 billion (£15.9 million) in future settlement payments.

This figure represents the maximum potential payout disclosed in a filing to the New York Stock Exchange following his dismissal on January 5, 2026. The total cost of terminating the Portuguese manager’s tenure is multifaceted:

In future settlements, a provision of £15.9 million (~KSh 2.8 billion) has been made for settlement payments to Amorim and his five backroom staff members.

The club immediately wrote off £6.3 million (~KSh 1.1 billion) related to intangible assets (the remaining value of the compensation paid to hire him from Sporting CP).United previously paid £11 million (~KSh 1.9 billion) to Sporting CP to secure Amorim in November 2024.

When combined with his earned salary of roughly £7.8 million and hiring fees, the entire 14-month tenure is estimated to have cost the club approximately £37.3 million (~KSh 6.6 billion).

Amorim was sacked after leading United to their lowest-ever Premier League finish (15th) in the 2024–25 season and losing the Europa League final to Tottenham.

His contract was originally set to run until June 2027 at an annual salary of approximately £6.5 million.Following his exit, Michael Carrick took over as interim manager and has led the team to 4th place in the Premier League as of late February 2026.
