Liverpool has turned down a £30 million bid from Bayern Munich for Senegal forward Sadio Mane.
The Reds were taken aback when the German club countered with an offer after an initial deal worth up to £25 million was turned down.
Given Bayern Munich’s similar assessment of 33-year-old Robert Lewandowski, Liverpool are thought to be looking for around €50 million (£42.8 million) for Mane.
Both Mane and Lewandowski have one year left on their current contracts.
After a decade with Bayern Munich, Poland star Lewandowski wants to join Barcelona this summer.
Mane has been more evasive about his plans for the future.
The forward joked over the weekend that he would be guided by public opinion in Senegal, implying that the majority of Senegalese people would rather he depart.
