Safaricom Posts Strong FY2025 Results as Expansion and Innovation Fuel Growth

Nairobi, Kenya – Safaricom PLC has posted a robust financial performance for the year ending March 31, 2025, reporting an 11.2% jump in total revenue to Ksh.388.7 billion, up from Ksh.349.4 billion the previous year. The telecommunications giant also saw its net profit climb to Ksh.45.7 billion, a rise from Ksh.42.6 billion recorded in the same period last year.

The impressive growth, according to CEO Dr. Peter Ndegwa, reflects the company’s continued push for innovation, successful expansion into Ethiopia, and strategic investments in social impact initiatives.

“As the Group results show, we have met the set guidance with Kenya delivering growth across all business units, and Ethiopia has accelerated commercial momentum reaffirming our commitment to transform Ethiopia’s digital future,” said Dr. Ndegwa. “This performance is attributed to our continued commitment to our Purpose of Transforming Lives and steered by our vision to be Africa’s purpose-led Technology company by year 2030.”

Safaricom’s Earnings Before Interest and Taxes (EBIT) surged by 29.5% to Ksh.104.1 billion, with operations in Ethiopia now contributing nearly 10% of total revenue.

The company’s Ethiopian venture recorded substantial progress, with its subscriber base doubling from 4.3 million to 8.8 million users. Safaricom Ethiopia now boasts over 3,141 network sites. Notably, 2.8 million Ethiopian customers are actively using M-PESA, transacting more than Ksh.20.6 billion over the reporting period.

Back home in Kenya, service revenue rose 10.5% to Ksh.364.3 billion, largely powered by M-PESA, which remains the crown jewel of Safaricom’s offerings. The mobile money platform, now celebrating 18 years of operation, brought in Ksh.161 billion, representing 44.2% of Kenya’s service revenue.

Beyond the numbers, Safaricom continues to make community empowerment a cornerstone of its strategy. The firm has invested over Ksh.18 billion in Education, Health, Environment, and Economic Empowerment initiatives over the past five years, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable and inclusive development.

With these figures and future-facing strategies, Safaricom appears well on course toward its 2030 goal of becoming Africa’s leading purpose-driven technology company.
