Kenyans who document and report illegal dumping in the county will receive rewards, as per Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
On his twitter account, the Governor of Nairobi urged the city’s citizens to refrain from illegal dumping and announced that in the event of a report, the punishment will be split with those who provided the information.
“As we unclog the drainage system throughout the city, let’s kindly desist from further illegal dumping. Ukiona mtu akidump and you record, mulika kabisa; we arrest, prosecute and split the fine. Will work on the county law to provide for this. Let’s keep our city clean,” said the Nairobi Governor.
The Governor cited neglect, illegal dumping, and contractors abandoning their equipment owing to unpaid bills as the causes of Nairobi’s garbage crisis last month.
Sakaja stated that his government will issue a green bond that will be used to finance the construction of a public transportation system as well as the expansion of the infrastructure for waste disposal and water delivery.
By turning waste into electricity, Sakaja claimed that a portion of the green bond will be used to address Nairobi’s rubbish problem.
