Sakaja Calls For Audit Of NMS Billions

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has requested that the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) undergo a comprehensive forensic audit.

Sakaja claimed on Radio Jambo on Friday that when the county and national governments intervened to save the city, NMS received significant funding from both.

He claimed that there is nothing substantial to show for it.

The governor insisted that NMS’s pending bills not burden the county because NMS operates under the President’s office.

“When NMS was tasked with taking over because nothing was functioning well in the county, there were aspects they handled successfully, while others were not executed adequately.”

“They were allocated Sh27 billion from the county, in addition to funds from the national government, yet they still have Sh16 billion in pending bills. Where is the evidence of the work done with over Sh40 million?”

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta established the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) in June, led by Kenya Air Force Major General Mohamed Badi.

The governor delegated some of the county’s functions to the national government through the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) program.
