Sakaja Orders Western, Rift Valley PSVs To Start Operating From Green Park

PSV Saccos and PSV companies providing services between Nyanza, Western, North Rift, South Rift, and Central Rift will now pick up and drop off passengers at Green Park Terminus beginning December 1.

The decision was reached after the county government, under governor Johnson Sakaja, met Saccos and other transport stakeholders on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Charter Hall.

Acting County Secretary Jairus Musumba stated in a notice that the county was in the process of reorganizing PSV operations of upcountry-bound saccos and companies.

“Nairobi City County is in the process of reorganizing public service vehicle operations of upcountry bound PSV Sacco’s and PSV companies, part of which will involve relocating Sacco’s to new areas of operation,” reads part of the notice.

After several delays, the Green Park Terminus will finally open to long-distance PSVs on December 1.

According to Sakaja, the new directive is part of efforts to relieve congestion in the CBD.

“The Green Park terminus is really good. It has good facilities and adequate space. Those travelling upcountry should be ready to board from Green Park beginning December 1. We are relocating all long-distance PSVs there,” he said.

The Ksh 250 million bus terminal was initially built by Nairobi Metropolitan Services for PSVs traveling on the Lang’ata and Ngong Road routes.

Despite former President Uhuru Kenyatta inspecting it three times prior to its commissioning last year, the terminus’s opening was delayed.

Green Park will be one of six official pick-up and drop-off locations once matatus are prohibited from entering the CBD.
