Governor Johnson Sakaja has stated that he will work with the military personnel at Nairobi County.
He stated that an MOU will be signed soon between City Hall and the military.
“I must say we have had this discussion with the head of state who is the commander in chief. We are going to enter into a framework with the military and we will work with them when needed,” Sakaja said.
Nairobi Metropolitan Services, led by Director General Lieutenant General Mohammed Badi, used military personnel to transform the city.
Badi, who has been in the military for 39 years as of March 2020, stated that former President Uhuru Kenyatta had attended a function at the National Defense College on March 17 before appointing him to lead NMS.
Despite all of the challenges and criticism, Badi stated that he was able to complete all of the tasks assigned to him.
He attributed his success to Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation training he received while enrolled in a military course.
Governor Sakaja also praised Badi’s use of military skills to renovate the county’s central garage.
“The central garage has really improved thanks to the work of Badi and NMS. The fuelling station at the central garage is going to be revived within a month,” he added.
Sakaja previously stated that he will renew the contracts of 20 former Kenya Defence Forces mechanics who were seconded by the NMS.
The former soldiers had been assigned to the county’s central garage in the Industrial area after their contracts with the NMS expired at the end of last month.
The soldiers had been assisting 12 county mechanics with vehicle maintenance.
“We shall extend your contracts by another two years because we do not want a disruption in the services you have been offering.”
