Samaritans Donate Food To Starving Kilifi

With the drought still ravaging several parts of Kilifi County such as Ganze and Magarini, several donours have hit the ground, assisting affected hunger victims with food and other basic needs.

Government agencies like Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) have also been issuing their interventions to residents of Bamba ward in Ganze which has been hardest hit by drought.

Since last week, the Mitangani location which borders Tsavo East National Park and which has been hit hard by brought received a number of well-wishers led by KWS distributed relief food to the locals in Goshi sub-location.

According to acting Mitangani Location Chief Stephen Thethe, the community received the supplies from the Mohammed Iqbal family, Kawasar Auto Mobile, Ryce motors, Mombasa Maize Millers, Akbar Auto Parts, Zahur Ali, Liyakat Khan family, and Serena Hotels.

“We received 150 bales of maize flour, 10 bales of wheat flour, sugar, rice, beans, tea leaves, clothes, biscuits, and lollipops. We are forever grateful to these people who have seen the suffering of the people and acted,” said Mr. Thethe.

The region last week also received food donations from the Rotary clubs drawn from Nakuru, Mombasa, Malindi, Kilifi, and Kwale counties.

The Rotarians relief food to the residents of Mitangani, Bamba, and Bandari locations where about 1,230 households benefitted from the relief.

“They brought with them maize flour, beans, and cooking oil. 350 Households got 12kgs maize flour, 3kgs beans, and 1.5kgs cooking oil whereas 880 households got 2kgs maize flour each. The event was graced by among others area MCA Christopher Mwambire, Zawadi Alfred, Migujini Assistant chief, and the local community,” said Mr. Thethe.

Other donors who have distributed relief supplies to the community include the Hindu religion which over the weekend distributed relief food to Gede sub-location in Mitangani location. They distributed maize flour, beans, bread, and salt.

Bamba ward in Ganze has been hardly hit by the drought which the government has since then declared a national disaster.

After failed rains, most parts of the country are experiencing a drought that has killed livestock, affecting millions of people.
