Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya and his Lamu counterpart Fahim Twaha were a no show in Taita Taveta County where the host Granton Samboja was elected the new chairman of the Jumuiya Ya Kaunti za Pwani (JKP). – By Ramadhan Kambi.
A statement from the Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani (JKP) Secretariat signed by its CEO Emmanuel Nzai announced that Mr Samboja had been elected in the meeting that was attended by four of the six governors from the Coast region.
“JKP is pleased to announce the unanimous resolution of the six member counties to appoint Mr Samboja as the new Chairman of the Coastal Regional Economic Bloc for a two year term (2021 – 2023),” Mr Nzai said in a statement.
The meeting was attended by Governors Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Amason Kingi (Kilifi), Dhadho Godhana (Tana River) and Granton Samboja (Taita Taveta County).
Mr Samboja, thanked his colleagues and appreciated the former Chairman, Salim Mvurya, who is the Kwale Governor for the strong partnerships and foundation he shepherded in his term.
“I want to assure the Coast people that we shall continue with the efforts to unite the region as that is the only way to make sure that we benefit from our resources. I want to thank Lamu Governor Fahim Twaha who also seconded me to be the chairman although he could not make it to the meeting today,” said Mr Samboja.
The new Chairman pledged to work closely with the JKP Secretariat and the Governors to convene sector meetings across the counties with a view to strengthen regional cooperation.
