The decision by a flamboyant lawyer and Kilifi politician George Kithi or commonly known as GK to change from his earlier position as a Senate aspirant to governorship has brought in a lot of confusion.

The Nairobi based lawyer has been crisscrossing the county, dishing goodies has he marketed his Senatorial bid only for him to change to governorship position only seven months to the General Election slated for August this year.

Mr Kithi announced his new ambition when he accompanied Governor Amason Kingi during the launch of the Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) grassroots campaign at Matano Manne in Ganze, Kilifi County.

Governor Kingi however did not endorse him and instead welcomed him to join the party that is agitating for unity of the Coast region.

“I want to say today that after a thorough thought, the people of Kilifi decided that the next coming Governor will be coming from Ganze Sub county and that person is George Kithi,” he said when he was given the chance by the Governor to address parents and students at Dzikunze primary school.

Governor Kingi was inspecting county government projects in Sokoke ward when Mr Kithi joined the convoy at the school.

His decision to go for the top county seat might have caught many by surprise and moments later, Kilifi social media was awash with his decision.

There were those who criticized the move saying that it had come in too late since he will not have enough time to adjust to the fully throttle of the gubernatorial race which needs a lot of planning and resource mobilization.

Other however said the move was timely and since George Kithi had already made his name as a Senate aspirant, would sail with ease.

Following his announcement those who are running for the top seat are Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa ASAL CAS Gideon Mung’aro, assembly speaker Jimmy Kahindi, Dan Kazungu, Baha Nguma, and Michael Kingi among others.

However, one of the PAA youths leader Samir Nyundo commenting in a whatsup  group called Cheche said that George Kithi like any other aspirant will not get a free ticket but will have to go for nominations with other governor aspirants .

“He is welcome to the party but he will be subjected to party nomination since we shall also have other gubernatorial candidates who will be seeking PAA ticket,” Nyundo said in the group.
