Second Chance: Six Cabinet Secretaries Make Comeback In Ruto’s New World

President William Ruto has unveiled 11 new Cabinet nominees and proposed the reappointment of six former Cabinet Secretaries (CSs).

The six reappointed CSs are Kithure Kindiki (Interior), Alice Wahome (Public Works), Aden Duale (Defence), Davis Chirchir (Roads), Soipan Tuya (Environment), and Rebecca Miano (Attorney General).

Kindiki, Duale, and Tuya have retained their previous dockets, while Wahome has been moved from Lands to Public Works and Chirchir previously held the Energy docket.

For Kindiki, it was a matter of when and not if. Various polls have ranked the Interior CS as a performer and a favourite among Kenyans, albeit police brutality and abductions witnessed during the protests.

Duale, a key ally of President Ruto sacrificed his majority leader seat during Uhuru’s tenure to stand with the then-deputy President. His tenure has seen Kenya enjoy relative peace and sound policy within the Defence ecosystem.

Soipan Tuya was a victim of the purge. She was in charge of President Ruto’s 15 Billion-tree initiative that has made him a darling of global leaders.

Ruto said the new Cabinet will play a crucial role in driving the country’s development and transformation. “The first batch of the Cabinet nominees will help me in driving the urgently needed and irreversible transformation of our country,”

The President also emphasized that the country’s credentials as a democratic nation have been severely tested over the past month but that the crisis provided an opportunity for Kenya to reflect deeply and chart a fresh start.

“Kenyans have a chance to bounce back from the crisis caused by multiple and complex factors and take our country where everyone wants it to be; a great nation,” Ruto said.

The President also revealed that further consultations are ongoing and more names will be announced in due course. The announcement comes after weeks of speculation about who would be appointed to key positions in the new administration.
