Security Beefed Up In Bomas As Crowds Mill Outside

It comes as tensions in the auditorium rise due to allegations of vote rigging.

Security at the Bomas of Kenya has been heightened as the tallying and verification of presidential results continues.

Tensions are rising at the national tallying center’s main entrance, where several leaders have been locked out.

As a result, a contingent of security teams, including riot police, GSU officers and special teams are at the gate to calm the situation.

Newly elected Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna, Makadara MP-elect George Aladwa, Siaya governor-elect James Orengo, Nderitu Muriithi, and others are among those barred.

The leaders, who came with a group of supporters, were temporarily denied access to the venue, prompting the supporters to protest.

Ndiritu Muriithi, Raila’s chief agent, has asked Chebukati to be honest with Kenyans.

How do you explain me being locked out of Bomas as the chair of the Azimio presidential campaign and as an accredited agent? Chebukati must come clean to Kenyans,” he said.

Normally when you are accredited, you are allowed to get to Bomas.

“We are explaining to the officers that what happens to Kenyans is on their hands,” he said.

They were later granted access but barred from entering the auditorium, where verification is still taking place.

They are now in the VIP lounge.

Commissioner Abdi Guliye ordered non-essential people out of the main auditorium where tallying was taking place on Saturday, saying that only accredited party agents, media, observers, and IEBC staff would be allowed on the premises in the future.

It comes as tensions in the auditorium rise due to allegations of vote rigging.

The Bomas of Kenya has been buzzing with activities since the tallying began on Tuesday, August 9, as the electoral agency rushes to beat the seven-day constitutional deadline to announce the official presidential results.
