Security Patrols by MSS and Haitian Police Ensure Peaceful Completion of National Exams

The Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS), in collaboration with the Haitian National Police (PNH), has successfully safeguarded the recent National Secondary IV (NS4) Examinations across Port-au-Prince and its surrounding regions.

The exams, a critical milestone in Haiti’s academic calendar, proceeded without disruption thanks to intensified joint patrols and a strengthened security presence in key areas, including Petite Rivière, Liancourt, and Pont Sondé.

In a statement released by MSS spokesperson Jack Ombaka, the mission confirmed that joint static and mobile patrols are now active around the clock in volatile zones including Petite Rivière, Liancourt, and Pont Sondé.

“This effort allowed our students to sit for their exams in safety and dignity,” the MSS said in a statement. “We recognise the resilience of Haiti’s youth and the importance of protecting their right to education.”

Security challenges in recent months had raised concerns that the examinations might face delays or even cancellation.

Armed groups have repeatedly disrupted transport routes and targeted public institutions. However, MSS personnel, alongside the Haitian police, not only secured exam centres but also helped reopen key roads across Delmas, Downtown Port-au-Prince, Thomassin, and Kenscoff — ensuring students and staff could travel to and from exam venues.

The presence of Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in hotspots like Downtown Port-au-Prince and Pont Sondé also played a pivotal role. These bases enabled rapid response to emerging threats and bolstered confidence among communities, particularly parents and educators.

The successful administration of the exams is being hailed as a symbolic victory in the broader struggle to restore normalcy in Haiti. The MSS has reiterated its commitment to supporting institutions vital to Haiti’s recovery — with education standing front and centre.
