Sen. David Wakoli, CBS, MP (Bungoma) has called for a statement from the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Budget regarding the status of pending bills owed by the County Government of Bungoma.
The Senator expressed concern over the accumulation of unpaid bills, noting that delayed payments to contractors, suppliers and service providers continue to affect the implementation of county projects and the operations of businesses that have delivered goods and services to the county government.
In his request, Sen. Wakoli asked the committee to provide the total amount of pending bills owed by the County Government of Bungoma as at 30th June 2025, including a breakdown of the respective amounts owed to each affected contractor.
He further requested details indicating the financial year in which the payments became due, as well as the specific projects undertaken, goods supplied or services rendered that resulted in the outstanding payments.
The lawmaker also sought clarification on whether the county government has undertaken a verification and audit exercise on the pending bills and, if so, the findings of the exercise.
Additionally, Sen. Wakoli asked the committee to outline the plan and timelines for settling all outstanding bills.
He further requested an explanation on the reasons behind the accumulation of the pending bills, including whether investigations have been initiated to establish the culpability of county government officials and the actions taken to hold those responsible accountable.
The senator also called on the committee to state the measures being implemented, including procurement planning and financial management reforms, to prevent further accumulation of pending bills by the Bungoma County Gove
