Senate To Hold Special Sitting Over National Dialogue Committee

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has called for a special sitting of the House on Tuesday, August 29 to approve the formation of the National Dialogue Committee, among other things.

In a gazette notice issued on Friday, Kingi instructed legislators to meet at the main Parliament Buildings in Nairobi at 9:30 a.m. on the aforementioned date.

“Notice is given to all Senators that pursuant to Standing Order 33 (1) of the Senate Standing Orders, on the request of the Senate Majority Leader and with the support of the requisite number of Senators, I have appointed Tuesday, the 29th August 2023, as a day for a special sitting of the Senate,” the notice reads in part.

Senators will also debate the nomination of Andrew Mukite Musangi for appointment as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Kenya, as well as the passage of the Climate Change (Amendment) Bill, according to Kingi.

“The business to be transacted at the sitting shall be the consideration of the Climate Change (Amendment) Bill, 2023, Public Finance Management (Amendment) Bill, 2023,” he said.

“In accordance with Standing Order 33 (5) of the Senate Standing Orders, the business specified in this Notice shall be the only business before the Senate during the special sitting.”

Following the discussions, the Senate will be adjourned until 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
