Senator Boni Khalwale Reveals Reasons for Switching Allegiance from Ruto to Matiang’i

UDA Senator Khalwale Reveals Why He Ditched Ruto for Matiang'i

In a significant political defection, UDA Senator Boni Khalwale has publicly announced his shift in allegiance from President William Ruto to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, citing a loss of faith in the current administration.

Khalwale revealed his decision at a rally in Nyamira County on November 23, explaining that a four-hour meeting with Matiang’i convinced him. He was swayed by Matiang’i’s promise to apply “brutal government efficiency” if elected president.

The Senator sharply criticized his own party leader, asserting that President Ruto’s vision of a first-world Kenya “shall not come to pass because Ruto’s government is full of corrupt leaders.”

His actions have not gone unnoticed. Khalwale has actively been campaigning for opposition candidates against his own UDA party in recent by-elections. This open disloyalty has prompted the UDA to issue him a formal “show-cause” letter, demanding an explanation for his actions and threatening disciplinary measures. The move signals a deepening rift within the Kenya Kwanza alliance.
