Senator Cherargei: Moses Kuria Is A National Embarrassment, But Murkomen Is Worse

Nandi Senator, Samson Cherargei has called upon President William Ruto to take decisive action against Cabinet Secretaries (CS) Moses Kuria (Public Service) and Kipchumba Murkomen (Transport).

In a statement on Wednesday, November 8, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) senator first termed Kuria as an embarrassment to the country and has little respect for the appointing authorities.

Cherargei was believed to have responded to a cryptic tweet by the CS which had called out several senators including Kericho’s Aaron Cheruiyot.

The senator further asked the President to extend his crackdown to Murkomen, given that the duo have been at loggerheads, with Cherargei accusing the CS of sidelining his county in matters of development.

“CS Moses Kuria is a national embarrassment who doesn’t care about respecting anyone including the appointing authority plus institutions such as the Senate but he is not alone he is in good company of CS Murkomen who insults, belittles anyone & everyone but Kuria only tweets. Murkomen is worse he takes the mic and bullies, insults and demeans the people and elected leaders even at funerals!

“The appointing authority must reign in on these rogue cabinet secretaries,” he stated on X (formerly Twitter)

Murkomen earlier accused the senator of tribalism after he allegedly asked the ministry to award contracts to local community contractors.

Cheruiyot on the other hand slammed CS Kuria after he attacked 13 Kenya Kwanza senators over Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza impeachment whose motion was tabled before the Senate against her.

Among the senators called out by CS Kuria include Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho), Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), Sigei (Bomet) Sen. Mundigi (Embu), Samson Cherargei (Nandi), Seki (Kajiado)and Fatuma Dullo (Isiolo).

The others include Abdul Haji (Garissa), Kamau Murango (Kirinyaga), Wahome Wamatinga (Nyeri), Kathuri Murungi (Meru), Wambua (Kitui) and Kajwan’g of Homabay county.

“Are you really sure you want a fight with parliament and parliamentarians right now?” Cheruiyot commented.

Kuria initially stated that the issues presented against Mwangaza did not warrant her impeachment.

“I have studied carefully the issues presented against Governor Kawira. The most serious offence is that she does what Kukuyus call Kuangalia watu manyiira. That offence can take you to hell but not to jail. Certainly not a ground for Impeachment,” Kuria said.

The CS’s remarks thereafter sparked heated debate at the Senate chambers with both Majority and Minority sides uniting to direct National Assembly Majority leader, Kimani Ichung’wah, to table a motion of impeachment against Kuria.

They expressed fears that the CS could ruin President Ruto’s reputation if he continued with his brash conduct.

Senate speaker Amason Kingi thus ordered the senators to file a motion that will be forwarded to the National Assembly that will initiate Kuria’s ouster.

”So Honourable Senators, if you feel indeed the behaviour of the CS is unbecoming, then invoke the relevant standing orders,” Kingi stated.

”This is a house of action. Pursuant to the point of order that has been raised by the majority leader, I implore upon you senators to take full advantage of the standing orders to bring sanity to some of these CSs. You have the power under the law.”
