Senator Karen Nyamu Kicked Out of Parliament Over ‘Inappropriate Dressing’

Nominated United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Senator Karen Nyamu was forced to leave the Senate chambers on Tuesday afternoon due to inappropriate dressing.

Senator Nyamu was dressed inappropriately in a kitenge skirt and a black sleeveless blouse that exposed her arms, which is against House rules.

Migori Senator Eddy Oketch petitioned the Speaker over his colleague Nyamu’s dress code, which he observed had brought disrepute to the House.

“I am really getting concerned with the kind of leadership that the majority side is showing this house. We are watering down the essence of Parliament,” he said.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi read out Speaker’s Rule number 5, which states that “Senators are required not to enter the chamber, lounge, or dining room without being properly dressed.”

Speaker Kingi ruled that Senator Nyamu had indeed violated the dress code rules and expelled her from the chamber.

“Senator I am afraid you do not fit the bill and I am going to ask you to leave the chambers,” he ruled.
