Senator Ledama Ole Kina of Narok has slammed President William Ruto’s remarks about Singapore’s success.
On Friday, Ruto stated that the Asian country made a difficult decision, which is why they are now where they are.
He drew parallels with Singapore, whose housing standards are now advanced, claiming that the country was once a slum-like Kibra before embarking on the housing project.
“Singapore was a slum just like Kibra, the difference between that country and us is the ability to make difficult decisions,” he explained.
However, in a statement issued on Saturday, Ledama stated that Singapore’s success could not be compared to Kenya’s.
“I shake my head vigorously as I hear WilliamsRuto defend the fund and compare it to Singapore!” Singapore’s success, he claims, is due to its strict meritocracy policy.
The ODM Senator went on to say that the much-debated housing fund plan is a scandal waiting to happen.
“The housing fund will be Africa’s biggest scandal!” Ledama added.
President Ruto has spoken out in support of the Housing Fund proposal in the Finance Bill 2023.
