Senator Maanzo: If Gachagua is impeached, so must Ruto

Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has sided with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, daring members of parliament to table an impeachment motion against the second in command.

Speaking during a panel on Citizen TV on Monday, September 23, 2024, Senator Maanzo stated that it was only right that President William Ruto also be impeachead should an ouster motion against DP Gachagua be brought forth.

He argued that the two are tied at the hip and would only be fair if they are both ousted.

“If there is an impeachment motion of the deputy president, then we will also have an impeachment motion against the president because they are one ticket and one people. There is nothing wrong the Honourable Gachagua has done.” Maanzo said.

“If there is going to be an impeachment motion, we have to tie them together. While we process one, we process another and run them concurrently in both the Senate and the National Assembly.”

Senator Maanzo reiterated that the deputy president had done nothing to warrant an impeachment motion against him. Instead, he explained that President William Ruto had subverted the Constitution multiple times and has more grounds of impeachment than his deputy.

The Makueni senator defended DP Gachagua’s constant defence of the Mount Kenya region, stating that it would be unfair to ignore the region he once represented at the National Assembly.

“Charity begins at home. He was a Member of Parliament in Nyeri. You cannot say you are the deputy president and so you are not going to address issues of your people, you are going to Rift Valley or Ukambani and address other people’s issues there.” Maanzo said.

He further claimed that DP Gachagua has been championing for agricultural products susch as tea, coffee, and macadamia nuts which are also found in other parts of the country.

The senator also climed that a plot to impeach the deputy president was hatched the moment they won the elections in August 2022, since the DP was not the popular candidate for running mate among UDA MPs.

Senator Maanzo dared the MPs to table an impeachement motion against Gachagua, stating that the Senate will also table an ouster motion against President Ruto.
