Senator Sifuna Meets Acting US Ambassador Marc Dillard in Nairobi

    Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, met Chargé d’Affaires Marc Dillard at the U.S embassy in Nairobi.

    During the meeting, the two discussed the US-Kenya partnership and plans to build and strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

    “Delighted to received @edwinsifuna to discuss the robust U.S.-Kenya partnership, including what we are doing together to build a strong creative economy that benefits both the United States and Kenya,” the statement reads in parts.

    The meeting comes a day after Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary (CS) John Mbadi met the ambassador to discuss how the executive orders signed by US President Donald Trump to halt foreign aid will affect the country.

    “CS Hon.FCPA John Mbadi, EGH, this morning held discussions with Marc Dillard, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the U.S. Embassy in Kenya (@USAmbKenya), (@USEmbassyKenya). Their discussions covered recent Executive Orders signed by the U.S. President and their potential implications for Kenya,” a statement shared by the National Treasury on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, reads in parts.

    The two also discussed the temporary 90-day suspension of various foreign aid programs as part of the broader review which aims to access the effectiveness of the programs to ensure they align with the US foreign policy priorities.

    Dillard and Sifuna equally discussed the potential effects of the foreign aid suspension on developmental programs and organizations in Kenya, and to explore collaborative solutions to emerging challenges.

    The Chargé d’Affaires further reiterated America’s commitment to supporting critical initiatives despite the temporary suspension affecting some foreign aid programs.

    At the same time, Dillard assured Kenya that the aid for the ongoing Haiti program, food assistance among other life-saving projects will continue.
