The emergence of an ORPP(Office of the Registrar of Political Parties) letter has triggered political controversy due to the revelation that a political organization referred to as the People’s Renaissance Movement (PRM) had achieved the stage of full registration.
According to the said letter issued on 17 April 2026, the process for granting full registration is being made following certain provisions of the Political Parties Act.
The correspondence, addressed to one Mr. Sarabhai Emmanuel, stated that “pursuant to section 7 (4) of the Political Parties Act, Cap. 7D, the Registrar shall, within thirty days of an application, issue a certificate of full registration to a provisionally registered political party which has fulfilled the conditions.”
It further directed compliance with regulatory requirements, noting that the party “shall be required to surrender the original certificate of provisional registration, accompanied by a duly signed forwarding letter.”
The letter, signed by Registrar of Political Parties/CEO J. C. Lorionokou, invited at least three founding members of the People’s Renaissance Movement to attend a certificate issuance meeting scheduled for April 22, 2026, at the ORPP boardroom in Nairobi.
The development has since fueled speculation online, with various claims alleging links between prominent political figures and the newly registered party.
Social Media Claims and Political Reactions
On social media platform X, several users alleged that senior politicians, including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, could be associated with the People’s Renaissance Movement, though no official confirmation has been issued by the individuals mentioned.
One user, @CaptainKipkorir, questioned the timing and coordination of online campaigns, stating, “Is this a coincidence or a well-orchestrated effort?” before adding that bloggers “are aggressively pushing hashtags for the newly unveiled Renaissance Party.”
On the same post, it further claimed that, “Is this not considered a betrayal of their own parties? Njaa ni mbaya aki,” which also indicated that innocent Kenyans could be lured into joining the cause.
However, such statements are yet to be proven as facts.
In another instance, @Dr_AustinOmondi referred to an interview conducted by the media earlier on, indicating that, “Yvonne Okwara asked Edwin Sifuna whether he was involved in the People’s Renaissance Movement some months ago, and he flatly denied its existence.”
He continued, “But today, the party is active. New dawn?” It is evident that the narrative is changing, but no concrete evidence exists to prove the link.
More accusations came from @Broadbasedgal, who alleged that, “Edwin Sifuna, Babu Owino, and James Orengo have formed a political party known as People’s Renaissance Movement (PRM).”
She raised a rhetorical question among her followers, asking, “Will you join the PRM party of Sifuna or will you continue with ODM?”

People’s Renaissance Movement FB Posts
The People’s Renaissance Movement also opened a Facebook account on April 22.
PRM has posted several updates on the page, including a poster of Edwin Sifuna as the new party leader.
Other posts include a poster indicating that the party will collect the full registration certificate on April 22, and all Kenyans are invited to attend the event.
There are also photos showing the party offices, logo, and even the event speech stand.
The photos were accompanied by a caption praising Linda Mwananchi leaders, especially Edwin Sifuna, for the role he has played since his fallout with ODM.
“The Linda Mwananchi faction has already established its presence through grassroots engagement and consistent messaging on governance, economic pressure, accountability, and political renewal. This foundation is what gives the emerging People’s Renaissance Movement its practical grounding. In many ways, the structure, support base, and messaging are already in place, with only formal declaration remaining,” reads part of the statement.
As of now, these claims are purely conjectural, and no official documents exist to confirm these facts.

Inconclusive Connections and Political Connotations
While numerous rumors and assertions abound regarding ties between Edwin Sifuna, Babu Owino, and James Orengo and the People’s Renaissance Party, it is noteworthy that there has been no official proof of such connections at this time.
None of the three leaders and others allied to the Linda Mwananchi faction has commented on the new political party.
However, the establishment of the said party prompts certain considerations regarding the possibility of political reorientation in preparation for subsequent elections.
If any such claims prove true, then there is definitely an indication of a new political orientation on the part of the Orange Democratic Party(ODM), among others.
