Senegal Stun England 3-1 in Historic Friendly Victory

The Teranga Lions of Senegal made history on Tuesday night by becoming the first African nation to defeat England, sealing a commanding 3-1 victory at the City Ground in a FIFA international friendly.

England made a bright start, with captain Harry Kane opening the scoring in the eighth minute after a swift attacking move. However, the lead was short-lived as Senegal responded with composure and resilience. Ismaila Sarr struck the equalizer just five minutes before halftime, capitalizing on England’s defensive lapse.

Despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession and showing relentless passion, England lacked precision in the final third. In contrast, Senegal proved clinical in front of goal. Habbib Diarra gave the visitors the lead in the 60th minute, finishing off a well-placed pass from veteran defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

England thought they had drawn level in the 84th minute through Jude Bellingham, but celebrations were cut short after VAR ruled the goal out for offside. Pushing forward in desperation for an equalizer, England left themselves vulnerable at the back.

Senegal capitalized on this in stoppage time. Lamnine Camara surged down the left flank and squared the ball to Cheikh Sabally, who calmly slotted home past goalkeeper Jordan Henderson to seal a historic 3-1 triumph.

The result not only marked a significant win for the former African champions but also etched their name in the history books as the first African side to defeat England in an international match.
