Senior IEBC Official Killed in Home Robbery

Aisha Akinyi Abubakar, a senior official with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), was murdered during a home invasion in Utange, Mombasa County, early Sunday morning.

Abubakar, 48, who served as the elections manager for IEBC in Kilifi County, was attacked around 3 AM alongside her 18-year-old son, Khasim Hassan.

According to police reports, the assailants—two men, one of whom was wearing a face mask—gained entry to the house by cutting through the grills of a kitchen window.

Armed with a crowbar and a knife, they violently assaulted the pair, with Akinyi suffering fatal injuries from a stabbing and blunt force trauma to her head. Her son was also seriously hurt during the brutal attack.

The gang fled the scene with stolen electronics, including a 65-inch television, a sound system, an iPad, and Abubakar’s mobile phone.

Despite being injured, Khasim managed to drive his mother to Premier Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. He remains hospitalized but is in stable condition.

Authorities have commenced an investigation into the robbery, canvassing the area for leads to identify the perpetrators.
