Senior Vihiga County Staff Arrested Over Sh. 21M Graft

A county Chief Finance officer is among six people scheduled to appear in court to answer charges of corruption.

The six, Mr. Wilberforce Ndula, Beatrice Alosa, Ernest Ambaka Lukayu, Nathaniel Ahaza, Peter Vulimu Ejimba, Elizabeth Mmbone Masidza are linked to an irregular tender award scandal.

According to the EACC, the EACC, the six are linked to an award of tenders for Supply of Toners and provision of Capacity Building and Development of a Risk Management Policy in the County Government of Vihiga. 

“It was alleged that the tenders were irregularly awarded to M/s Boyse Ventures Limited at a sum of KES. 21,000,000 during the Financial Year 2014/2015.” the EACC was quoted in a statement. 

The EACC further revealed that upon further investigations, M/s Boyse Ventures Limited, got the tender to undertake capacity building and to develop a Risk Management Policy and to supply toners at a tender sum of KES. 8,000,000 and KES. 6,336,000 respectively. 

“The Head of Procurement at the County Government of Vihiga, Mr. Nathaniel Ahaza, is a Director at M/s Boyse Ventures Limited, the Company that was awarded the tender hence resulting to a conflict of interest.”

Vihiga county made a payment of KES. 8,000,000 for capacity building and development of a Risk Management Policy. 

However, the services were never provided. 

The County Government had also made a payment of KES. 6,336,000 for toners that were not supplied.

The suspects will be charged with conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, abuse of office, unlawful acquisition of public property and conflict of interest.
