After giving some subpar performances in the year 2021, Serena Williams walked out of the circuit because of an injury sustained during the Wimbledon Championships.
She made her long-awaited return to the tour only at this year’s grass-court major.
However, her return wasn’t as impactful as anticipated.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion failed to secure her spot in the second round.
Even though Williams walked out of the tournament empty-handed, she hasn’t lost her faith.
She still believes she can compete against the current WTA stars in the upcoming hard-court season.
Williams enrolled in the National Bank Open to kick-start her hard-court campaign. Now, she has announced her participation in the Cincinnati Open as well.
The former World no.1 has won two WTA 1000 titles on the hard courts of Cincinnati. She was victorious in the years 2014 and 2015 and reached the final in 2013.
