Real Madrid have confirmed that Sergio Ramos has a calf injury and will miss both legs of Champions League quarter final against Liverpool.
Ramos sustained a calf injury on Wednesday night, after appearing as a late substitute in Spain’s World Cup qualifying win against Kosovo.
The centre-back returned from action with Spain earlier this week following a previous injury lay-off, only for the club to confirm that he has suffered a muscle problem in his left leg.
It means he will be absent for both legs of the much-anticipated Champions League quarter-final tie against Liverpool, in which a lot of the build up has centred around his reunion with Mohamed Salah, who he injured in the final of the competition in 2018.
Ramos himself sent a message following the news, where he expressed his disappointment.
Real Madrid beat Liverpool 3-1 in the 2018 Champions League final and go into this quarter-final clash sitting third in La Liga.
Liverpool, who won the Champions League the following year, have endured a miserable season, slipping to seventh in the Premier League, 25 points behind leaders Manchester City.
