Seven killed as truck crashes into pedestrians in Meru

At least seven people were killed on Saturday evening after a lorry veered off the road and hit a motorcycle and pedestrians in the Timau area of Meru County.

Police reported that several others were injured and admitted to the hospital.

According to authorities, the lorry was transporting construction blocks from Meru towards Timau when the driver lost control at around 6:20 pm.

The fatalities include four men, two women, and a girl, among them the motorcycle rider who was pronounced dead upon arrival at Timau Sub-County Hospital.

Buuri sub-county police commander Laura Imbacha stated that several injured individuals were taken to medical facilities in Timau and Nanyuki towns.

“The lorry hit the motorcycle, which was then removed from the scene to an unknown location. It subsequently knocked down several pedestrians, rolled multiple times, and landed in a ditch,” police said.
