Seven Suspects Arraigned Over Mawego Police Station Arson Attack

Seven individuals accused of orchestrating the arson attack on Mawego Police Station on July 3 have been arraigned at the Oyugis Law Courts, as authorities intensify investigations into the violent incident.

The suspects, Kennedy Oluoch, Nicholas Otieno, Tofiq Owiti Mohamed, Michael Omondi Opiyo, David Bill Clinton Otieno, Robert Ouko Abala, and Samuel Ouma Odhiambo, are believed to be the key planners of the coordinated attack. They appeared in court on Tuesday and were remanded for seven days to allow detectives to conclude ongoing investigations.

The arson occurred during a funeral procession for the late Albert Ojwang, a former detainee of Mawego Police Station who was later transferred to Central Police Station in Nairobi, where he reportedly died in custody. The circumstances surrounding his death have sparked public outrage and unrest in the region.

Police have described the arson as a calculated act of malicious damage to government property and a grave threat to law enforcement infrastructure. Detectives say the suspects were part of a larger group, and efforts are underway to track down additional accomplices who remain at large.

Authorities have vowed to bring all those responsible to justice, even as they work to restore calm in the wake of the incident.
