Several arrested as Nairobi police recover 1,000 stolen phones

Police in Nairobi have recovered about 1,000 mobile phones in an operation conducted in one week alone.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said the recovery follows a crackdown they launched.

According to Bungei, several people suspected of being involved in the incidents were arrested during the operations.

“We are effectively managing the situation and have achieved notable progress thus far. We have successfully retrieved the stolen phones, and several suspects are currently facing legal proceedings,” stated Bungei.

Emphasizing their dedication to addressing the issue of phone theft and other forms of criminality in Nairobi, Bungei reiterated the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of residents.

However, Bungei clarified that the reported incidents are isolated and not as widespread as they may appear.

These developments come in the wake of a security advisory issued by the US Embassy cautioning its citizens about escalating crime levels in Nairobi’s residential areas.

“Incidents include crimes of opportunity such as purse and phone snatching,” the advisory from the Embassy stated, urging American residents in Nairobi to remain vigilant while conducting their daily activities.
